Welcome to Breakwater Hostel

Often described as “a second home” and “the first and last traditional backpackers in Newquay”.

This long-established homely hostel offers a warm welcome to all guests – surfers, hikers, and travellers alike.

We are situated in the heart of Newquay, within easy walking distance of awesome surfing beaches including Fistral Beach, Towan Beach, Great Western Beach and Tolcarne Beach. The town centre is on our doorstep where you can find a range of cafes, restaurants, bars, clubs, surf shops, a leisure centre, a cinema, and even an aquarium.

We are a great base for many scenic walks along the coast to Holywell Bay, Porth beach, Lusty Glaze, and Watergate Bay. And even further!
Come and enjoy our many facilities, including secure surfboard storage room, wetsuit storage, warm showers, free breakfast between 8 am and 10 am. We also have a fully equipped self-service kitchen which is open from 8 am – 8 pm and we provide free tea, coffee, and milk all day.

If it’s a few relaxing days chilling on the golden beaches, learning to surf, or a fun-filled weekend you are looking for.

About Newquay

Newquay sits along the Atlantic Ocean on Cornwall’s north coast, in southwestern England. Its sandy beaches and strong swell have made it one of the most popular vacation destinations in the UK as people flock to enjoy England fleeting summer (and even catch some waves!).

Many of the Newquay hostels also have in-house restaurants to help you completely relax; and if surfing is your thing, keep an eye out for the hostel surf schools as well!

There are several Newquay hostels that are only a short walk from the sandy beaches and charming streets, so you’ll be able to have your toes in the sand or check out the cute shops within minutes of arriving! Staying in one of the oceanfront hostels will give you an experience you’ll never forget as you listen to the waves break and the ocean breeze blow right outside your window. One of the beautiful things about Newquay is the size, everything you need to get a full Newquay experience will be nearby no matter where you choose to stay.

Whether you’re looking to get an adrenaline rush, broaden your mind, or unwind from the daily grind, Newquay has an activity with your name on it. It’s a famous surf destination, but if the water isn’t your thing you can still live on the edge by heading to a theme park or going ziplining. The Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre is also nearby; or, embark on the Pirate’s Quest to learn about Cornwall’s pirate history. Of course, you’ll need to spend some time on the beach and check out Towan Island!

Cornwall Airport Newquay is only 24min away from Newquay by bus, and Newquay Station goes right into the centre of town. Once in Newquay, there is a bus network that will help you get around town. You’ll also find that you’ll be able to walk most places or rent a bike if you’d like to get around a bit faster. More scenic trips will likely require a car rental.
