We’re delighted you’ve decided to make us your little home away from home. To help make your stay as pleasant as possible, please read up on this Do’s and Don’ts.

* Check-in is at 11am, check-out is 10am. If you need a little bit more time, please inform the management.
* Please refrain from smoking. Odors from cigarette smoke stick to walls and fabric in the room, resulting in a room that’s expensive to clean. Smoking in the rooms will be charged a fine of Php 1,000.
* Please take care of the rooms. We’re proud of our hostel rooms and we’d like to keep them looking as good as possible. Please do not vandalize, damage or take anything in and around the room. Lost and damaged items, and rooms left in an unacceptable condition will incur a fine/ payment.
* Please keep noise to a minimum between 10pm and 7am. This way, you won’t disturb guests turning in for the night in neighboring rooms.
* Please Do not bring or consume alcohol or prohibited drugs on the premises. In addition, please do not bring inflammable or explosive materials into the room. We want to keep the room and our guests as safe and secure as possible .
* Please conserve water. Save Mother Earth. We’re doing our bit and we’d like you to help us by reusing your towels and linens. Stained towels and linens will incur a fine.
* Please register your extra person if he/she is staying beyond 10pm. An extra person incurs additional costs in utilities. Please let the management know if there are any extra guests.
* Please take care of your belongings. It always helps to be vigilant. Do not leave valuables in your room. If you need any assistance with securing your belongings, the management will be more than happy to help you.

I had a very nice stay at Joval Homestay. Everything was as described on the site. The staff was very kind. The air con 4 bed dorm was good. Joval is an affordable hostel. I had the most authentic experience in the Philippines so far thanks to this hostel. Local food recs, tour recs, it’s a tad on the outskirts so can see life of the Filipinos in Coron, but still a quick walk to downtown. It’s very nice for an experienced backpacker/ traveler.

Owner was very helpful in organising tours and transfers. No curtains or lockers in the rooms and no lock on the door. There was a terrible fishy smell in the place which made the common areas fairly useless - it looked like the owner was growing something on the bottom floor in big barrels. One of the beds in the dorm was right below the aircon so whoever was in that bed was much colder than the rest of the dorm. Probably wouldn’t recommend which is unfortunate because the owner is very nice.

About Coron

With rugged limestone cliffs, crystal-clear blue lagoons and powdery white-sand beaches, Coron in the Philippines is picture-perfect. Although the region is centred on Coron Town, most visitors come here to explore the many tiny islands found offshore, where you can find secluded coves, lush greenery and diverse marine wildlife. Divers and snorkelers can discover coral gardens and sunken shipwrecks.

Among the Coron hostels, you can stay in sleek contemporary dorms, a traditional woven building or an eco hostel powered by solar energy. Hostels tend to have a social atmosphere with communal spaces such as rooftops and shared barbecue facilities. Take it easy in a hammock under shady mango trees or grab a drink at an on-site bar. Some hostels in Coron are geared towards divers, with discounts for excursions and equipment hire.

Confusingly, Coron Town and Coron Island are not the same. Coron Town is located on Busuanga Island and it's the main commercial centre for the region; this is where you'll find bars, restaurants and the departure point for diving trips and boat tours. Jungle-clad Coron Island is a short boat ride away and known for its caves, coral reefs and rugged natural scenery. Other areas to explore include tiny Sangat Island, a popular spot for diving and Marcilla Beach, where there are mangrove trees and a long white sandbar offshore.

Coron is full of natural attractions. On Coron Island, Kayangan Lake has turquoise water so clear that you can see every detail of its rocky floor. It's also home to Barracuda Lake, named after the resident fish – a popular scuba diving spot. At night, you can take boat tours from Coron Town to watch the fireflies and bioluminescent plankton. Above Coron Town is Mount Tapyas – well-worn hiking trails lead to its peak, which has panoramic views out over the islands.

Francisco B. Reyes Airport (also known as Busuanga Airport) is 16km away from Coron Town. From the airport, you can take a taxi or a jeepney (the journey takes around 20 minutes). To get around Busuanga Island, you can rent a motorbike or hail a tricycle. Boats leave regularly from Coron Town to nearby islands and beaches; you can join a boat tour or even rent a kayak and paddle yourself around. The town itself is compact and relatively walkable.
