About

De Helleborus is a gentle gem on the outskirts of Groningen, located in the village of Engelbert. As an eco-hostel and permaculture centre, we are passionate about sustainability, green living and a connection with nature. Our food forest bursts with different colours, changing with the seasons, while cats roam freely among the trees. In low-season, we offer beds in our shared dorm room inside the house, while in summer you can stay in a ready made tent, caravan or yurt, peacefully nestled in the forest! We have a few lovely spaces to sit by a campfire and play your guitar, as well as a wood fired hot tub, bicycle rentals and a beautiful outside kitchen in the forest.

One of my favourite locations during the past month of backpacking around Europe! Loved the atmosphere and fairy lights surrounding the camp. It was beautiful returning to camp after a night in the city to the colourful lights guiding the way to your tent. Only downside is the bus from the city comes hourly after a certain time so you don’t want to miss it. Also they’re very strict on visitors. They tried charging my friend for just walking through the camp (didn’t stay longer than 5 mins).
